quoteNo, [Dubai]. It’s not awesome. You’re totally trying way too hard. You’re like a sixteen-year-old kid in West Virginia driving a Porsche—or even worse, like a monster truck made of diamonds.

recent triumphs in money-spending

-cuisinart 12-piece cookware set hell YEAH. finally we can get rid of that nasty fry pan that supplies us with our daily allowance of scraping-off nonstick coating. as well as all of our other terrible pots.

-the many beers at the pitchfork festival. goose island IPA is seriously not bad, and drinking it all damn weekend in a sunny park while listening to great bands was so relaxing. I could probably do that every weekend.

-these two little rattling cat toys yesterday. they direct the aggressive attentions of Kitten away from our feet and legs which is a relief. he bats and chases them all over the apartment and we relax with cool drinks.

-OH MAN THE 3-LP ‘THE WORLD OF ARTHUR RUSSELL’ COMPILATION SOUL JAZZ PUT OUT, bought at the pitchfork record fair which was additionally a very cool thing of the pitchfork festival, things were priced so reasonably and people were so excited to find good things.

-an oldie/goodie: that haircut i got last month! from the belmont barbershop aka my new favorite barbershop. it’s growing out very nicely and I am continually pleased with it.

-new bike lock. hopefully will prevent my bike from being stolen.

-Joan Didion’s massive “We Tell Ourselves Stories in Order to Live” collected nonfiction book. too big to really take outside the home but who needs to do anything like that? i’m really glad I got this book because she is such an awesome writer. It makes me wish I could be jaded and neurotic and eloquent just like her.

-our CSA box was crazy amazing this week. so many beautiful little peppers and greens and basil and the BEETS. wow. we made this great meal last night: beet latkes with apple salsa served on sauteed mustard greens. i can’t even talk about it much more than this. i could eat this daily.

quoteLenders have been eager to expand their reach. They have honed sophisticated marketing tactics, gathering personal financial data to tailor their pitches. They have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising campaigns that make debt sound desirable and risk-free. The ads are aimed at people who urgently need loans to pay for health care and other necessities.
